Policy
Policy development and policy advocacy are core functions of the NHF.
The policy team undertakes policy research and analysis to produce reports, briefing papers, and responses to public consultations. We provide a resource to NHF members and to policymakers, nationally and internationally across a range of topics - hosting meetings and expert seminars as well as sharing evidence and ideas.
Our work is directed to where we believe the greatest public health benefits will be gained; focusing on up-stream public policy shifts to achieve systemic and sustainable change.
The NHF has been instrumental in securing school food standards, marketing controls on TV and in fostering a population-based approach to public health policy making in recent years. We are currently engaged on projects on: food marketing to children; nutrient profiling and nutritional labeling; planning local environments to support health; alcohol and chronic disease; active travel; policies to eliminate artificial trans fats; and the health impacts of fuel poverty.
