A major focus of the programme is to increase recognition and action on the drivers of the unequal distribution of preventable NCDs. Four out of five deaths occur in low and middle-income countries and almost half of these are premature, in people under 60 years of age, with significant social and economic consequences on poverty and development.

NHF is working with partners including The Lancet, NCD Alliance and Commonwealth Secretariat to support advocacy efforts around the UN High Level Meeting on NCDs in September 2011

NHF has established a High Level Chronic Disease Advocacy Task Force to coordinate advocacy efforts in the UK

NHF is collaborating with the Department of Health on a project to develop and support the uptake of Global Health Impact Assessments within government

NHF is organising a parallel forum on NCDs at the European Health Policy Forum in Gastein, Austria, in October. The forum is sponsored by the Ministry of Health, Taiwan.

NHF is supporting the Young Professionals Chronic Disease Network on a global campaign to engage students and young people.
