Physical activity
Currently in the UK, the majority of the population spends most of its time living and working in an ‘obesogenic’ environment, with its abundance of energy dense food, motorised transport and sedentary lifestyles.
The benefits of physical activity in the prevention of avoidable chronic diseases are well known. Physical activity can be both planned (physical activity for recreation or fitness) or incidental (such as walking and cycling for active travel).
The National Heart Forum believes that by creating environments that promote opportunities for everyday forms of physical activity, such as walking and cycling for active travel, we can address the dual policy goals of improving health and combating climate change.
